Houston, We Have a Challenge Course!

The people of Houston, Texas decided to Accept the Challenge with a GameTime Challenge Course, the first of its kind in the state of Texas.

Installed by Total Recreation Products, GameTime's exclusive representative in Texas, the course combines elements of obstacle course racing with sports training to create a unique recreation option for every generation. Since it opened in Tom Bass Park, people have been raving about it.

One Yelp reviewer said the Challenge Course was the most popular play area in the whole park.

"This course is really fun," an 8-year-old told local new station KHOU. "You can do it as many times as you want."

When Houstonian magazine writer, Brittanie Shey, went to the park the Monday before Independence Day, she noted the course was packed with both kids and adults.

Sheila Thornton-Wright of Sante Fe learned about the Challenge Course from a Facebook post. “My kids are all big fans of American Ninja Warrior, and they’re all involved with martial arts, so we came to check it out,” she told the Houstonian. Wright also used the Challenge Course timing app to record the kids' times on the course.

This Challenge Course has been two years in the making. When it was first proposed, there were only two other Challenge Courses in the country. Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis thought it was a great opportunity to expand community wellness through physical fitness.

"This type of playground encourages physical activity," said Chambers Washington, the park superintendent. "We even have personal trainers who come out here to use it."

The course has been so popular that the park is planning to install a second course in summer 2018.
