GameTime and Sinclair Recreation, GameTime’s exclusive agency in Michigan, recently completed the reconstruction of a popular community playground at Pinewood Park in Kentwood, Michigan. The original playground was a much beloved, and often visited community centerpiece. Constructed in 2001 by over 700 hundred volunteers working around the clock for a week, the massive wooden play structure became a second home to the children and families of the surrounding neighborhoods.

A tragic act of arson in 2012 destroyed most of the playground. The community rallied together and vowed to build a new playscape with modern, compliant amenities that would serve future generations of children.

More than 200 volunteers joined in one of GameTime’s largest community-led installations to date, including many of the people who helped build the original playground. Over four days, the community helped to restore play to Pinewood Park with an enormous PowerScape play system. GameTime preserved the original wooden park entrance to remind visitors of the first playground that Kentwood built and to serve as a symbol of the community’s commitment to enrich childhood through play.

“I was very happy with the Kentwood playground build,” said Charlie Ziesemer, Director of the Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department. “GameTime and Sinclair Recreation were outstanding. Their organization, hard work and quality performance directly contributed to getting the community involved and producing a fantastic playground.”
