Giving Back

Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee was the recipient of new supplies and a day of volunteering to restore outdoor learning environments, improve the play area, and freshen indoor office spaces.

The magnet school is under the leadership of a new principal, Mrs. Rosalynda Odom, who has been focusing on raising both the educational and environmental standards of this magnet school.

“My vision for this school is to make it into a place that the students of this community want to come to and be very proud of. And we all know the way a school looks has a great impact on the pride of the students that attend that school,” said Odom.

GameTime, and other PlayCore divisions partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Chattanooga as well as the Lookout Mountain Conservancy on Saturday, September 8, to pool their efforts in cleaning up the playground area, painting indoor office areas, weeding garden beds, and updating the outdoor science classroom with fresh mulch, a new chalkboard and a discovery table.

All of these improvements will impact the school’s overall environment and become a beacon for the whole community as they continue to attract students from around the local area.

Odom continued, “In addition, we want to make Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science Academy a showpiece not just for the community here, but for the entire school district. It is very important for us in this community at this time to revitalize the environmental science magnet. So, a lot of the things that we are doing physically to the campus are in the spirit of that revitalization.”

PlayCore’s mission is to support the communities in which they live, work, and play. The company is headquartered in Chattanooga and participates with its brands in several days of caring throughout the year all over the nation.

“Our annual Days of Caring bring together our dedicated and enthusiastic employees and local organizations for a fun day of volunteering to benefit our communities,“ said Mike Love, vice president of talent management at PlayCore. “This year we were excited to be part of this project to enhance the learning environment for the children which aligns with PlayCore’s mission and values to give back to the communities where we live, work, and play.”
