A Commitment to Service

During the 2018 Parks Make Life Better Tour with the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS), we had the great honor of visiting Adrian C. Cordova Park. The park is named after a former United States Marine and a Calexico police officer whose watch tragically ended on November 1, 2007. To honor his life of service, the community dedicated a park to serve the children and families of Calexico.

As part of the CPRS Statewide Healthy Play Initiative, Calexico recreation officials attended educational symposiums hosted by PlayCore to learn about research and best practices in the areas of inclusive play and youth physical activity. After the workshops, the community applied for grant funds from GameTime to put that research into action and designed a model playground for communities around the world.
