Together, we can help make our children fit again.

GameTime leads the pack in providing tools and products to help fight childhood obesity. For several years, we have been conducting and sponsoring third party research with development experts to help us understand the epidemic, and what we can do as a manufacturer of recreation equipment to address the crisis. Our research has shown us the dramatic effect that play can have on children.

  • gametimePlay is “the great equalizer,” it doesn’t matter what a child’s shape or ability, all can play at a level that is beneficial, with no pressures or singling out.

  • Our play and fitness equipment is based on research, not supposition. A great playground is the sum of its parts, ours are designed to keep a child active, develop skills, and keep them coming back.

  • Research shows that activity levels on a GameTime playground over a 20 week study were just as high during the last week of the study as the first week. The key is design, it must be challenging, with opportunities for skill advancement in order to hold children’s attention. This is our fundamental element of design.

  • Research proves that 30 minutes of free play can advance a child’s caloric burn to half the Surgeon Generals recommended levels.

Every pound of fat a person gains is made up of 3500 calories that are not burned. Want to find out if you are burning off what you eat? The table below shows some of the common activities that children do each day. To find out how many calories they burn, choose an activity from the left column, then select the number to the right of the activity that is located under the weight that is closest to your child's. This represents the number of calories burned in 30 minutes of that activity. Add up the total for each day to figure out how many calories you burn in a day. For even more activities, and to add up daily caloric intake, go to www.caloriesperhour.com. As an example, if I were to eat 3000 calories every day, but only burn 2000, every day I would store 1000 calories, and every 3 ½ days I would gain a pound of fat. Increase caloric burn by playing outside for at least 1 hour every day!
