7/22/2008 GameTime celebrates opening of Give Kids the World Playground
Fort Payne, AL GameTime was honored to attend the grand opening of Matthew's Boundless Playground at the Give Kids the World Village. Give Kids the World is a 70-acre, non-profit resort in the Orlando area that creates magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The facility provides accommodations at its resort, along with donated attractions tickets, meals and more for a week-long, cost-free fantasy vacation. With the help of many generous individuals, corporations, and partnering wish-granting organizations, Give Kids the World has welcomed more than 85,000 families from all 50 states and over 60 countries.
The village features a magical theater, fun activities, and whimsical housing, however, it did not have a playground until GameTime and Boundless Playgrounds, together with the guiding help from Hasbro, created a CandyLand themed wonderland. Children can play under and on the shaded GameTime playground structure or engage in a life size game of CandyLand, as the board game's colorful pathways come to life in the poured-in-place recycled rubber surfacing surrounding the play area. All of these elements combine to create a truly unique environment where imagination and wonder are never in short supply.
After a heartfelt dedication ceremony, the park was opened to children on July 14. Park personnel led everyone in games, dance, and of course lots of free play!
